Bahama shutters add a tropical, coastal charm to your home while providing shade and privacy. Here’s a step-by-step guide to measuring your windows to ensure a perfect fit.
Step 1: Measure the Window Opening
- Width Measurement: Measure the width of the window opening from side to side. Record the measurement.
- Height Measurement: Measure the height of the window opening from the top to the bottom. Record this measurement as well.
Step 2: Add Allowance for Overhang
Bahama shutters are designed to sit slightly larger than your window opening to allow for installation space and visual balance.
- Add 3 inches to both the width and height of your measurements. This extra size allows the shutter to overhang the window frame and provides room to attach the tilt arms securely.
- Adjustment for Windowsills: If your window has a sill, consider adjusting the height addition to only 1.5 inches taller than the window opening instead of 3 inches to ensure proper closure.
